Top hint for this course

Let's give you a tip. On the 4th, the 250-yard par-4 is reachable in two strokes, but the rough means that anything inaccurate will be punished. Take a cautious approach with two shots, and you'll likely get that birdie.

Full Course Lowdown

While overshadowed by Gullane No.1 and 2, make no mistake about it, the No.3 Course is primed and ready.

Many underestimate it's difficult because of the yardage, but it demands both accuracy and a level head to get the better of it.

With the many slopes, fast greens, natural bunkers and narrow fairways, the technique is favoured above anything else, and a cautious approach is often needed. That's why so many return to play.

Course

The opening hole tests your IQ. A risk-and-reward situation where a drive to the left provides ample room for a second shot, but favouring the right of the fairway provides a better approach shot; with a bunker laying in the middle.

The 6th, a stroke index of 1, provides a real challenge. Drive left of the centre as this avoids all the hidden bunkers. From there aim for the centre of the dancefloor and get putting.

On the 11th, you only need 130 yards from the tee box, so pick your club wisely and hit the green. Shots that are slightly overhit will be saved by the bank behind the green.

Finishing with the 18th, technique is favoured here above all. Hitting the fairway from the tee-off is essential as it makes the approach much easier. Now let the putting do the talking and win the round!

Clubhouse

Two 19th holes mean you don't need to leave the club once the round has finished, so there are plenty of beverages, meals, and snacks to choose from to refuel after the action.

Count the scorecards, order your favourite clubhouse classics, wash it down with some local Scottish swing oil and prepare the forfeits for the losers of the round.
