Top hint for this course
How about a tip for the 2nd? The shortest par-4 on the course requires accuracy over distance, and the undulated dancefloor slopes right to left. Favour the area between the left bunkers from the tee. This will open the approach shot.
Full Course Lowdown
For many, teeing off with your buddies and experiencing the 12th-best golf course in the world is a pipe dream - well, not anymore.
Muirfield is a legendary, near-mythical course with its god-tier status and likely the best you'll ever enjoy. The Gullane track is more than familiar with The Open and has hosted the Ryder Cup throughout its history.
Follow in the footsteps of the GOATS Vardon, Braid, Cotton, Nicklaus, and Faldo and play your very own Open.
Course
A difficult opening hole. As if the pressure wasn't enough-you're teeing off at Muirfield-time to bring you're A-game. Drive towards the left side near the bunkers for the approach where the green is merged with the fairway; aim towards the front as the green is sloped and fast.
The 4th, a par-3, is short but deceiving. You have to hit the landing from the elevated tee, as missing on either side is costly due to the bunkers.
Now for the end of the front nine. Bunkers are awkwardly placed throughout the fairway, making it difficult to navigate - beware of the green, it slopes from left to right and it's steep at the back, making this a tricky approach.
And at the final hole, there's no easing up. To add to the mounting pressure, the clubhouse overlooks the fairway. The first landing for the tee shot is generous but the dancefloor is plagued with bunkers. Look out for the island bunker on the right. Simply iconic.
