Top hint for this course
How about a tip for the 2nd? Wind often affects play, and with a dogleg left, favour the right side of the fairway using a mid-iron will do the trick.
Full Course Lowdown
The 7th best course in Ireland, one of the UK's best, and a classic Irish coastal links means The Island Golf Club is a force to be reckoned with.
The terrain causes many issues for those who refuse to play strategically-leave your ego at home, you'll need composure to get ahead of the gang. Playing here is a golfer's paradise, so grab your best clubs and enjoy the thrills of the fairways.
Course
The opener is notoriously harsh. You don't want to miss the fairway on this one, as it will make the approach, with a raised green, even harder. Favour accuracy here.
The end of the front nine requires a draw (if you can pull that out of your locker), as the fairways goes right to left. Hitting the green is difficult, as it's protected by bunkers and surrounded by rough, so don't flunk it here.
On the 13th, a lovely par-3 waits. Accuracy off the tee will hit the green and present a birdie chance if you avoid the bunker. The cautious approach would be to use a layup to chip on the dancefloor.
Recognised as one of the best finishers on a links. The elevated green provides a great challenge for the approach, with the weather sometimes affecting the tee shot, a central drive is best. Now, land on the dancefloor and sink that putt!
Clubhouse
A certified classic 19th hole. This menu is off the hook-10oz fillet steak, full Irish breakfast, Dublin Bay scampi, and the Island Club Sandwich-you'll be eating like PGA Tour pros.
In a relaxing and traditional Irish setting, kick back and unwind while tucking into a pint of Guinness or tasting some of the finest Irish whiskies and wines.
Sip your beverage while overlooking the course the gang just conquered and discuss the action.
