Top hint for this course
Here's a tip to get ahead. On the 5th, you face a tricky par-5 with a possible birdie chance. It features a dogleg left with bunkers halfway up the fairway, which you cannot see from the tee box. Lay up just short of these for a second approach shot. Then, put away a two-putt for that birdie.
Full Course Lowdown
At a grand 7,105 yards, this course with USGA-standard greens provides an exciting and tough challenge for the advanced golfer. Water hazards are a main feature, with bunkers also providing you with a tough time.
As it's one for the lower-handicap players, why not treat this as the ultimate showdown? Who will come out on top once you get into the swing of things? Bring the squad along for an unforgettable round.
Course
The opener of the front nine starts with a tough par-4. A drive favouring the left would set the hole up best as there are bunkers on the right side of the fairway. The hole has slopes to your advantage. Using this downhill will shorten the distance for the approach.
The 9th demands an accurate drive that avoids the bunkers to the right and the rough and bunkers to the left, so a central drive is vital. A lay-up shot should then see the green within reach, but be warned, this dancefloor is tough. Even a dreaded three-putt would be respectable.
Next is an excellent par-3 with an elevated tee, guarded by water. You have a bail-out option to the right of the green if you wish to play it cautiously, but anything overhit will see you punished by the water hazard. A par here would be an awesome achievement.
Clubhouse
The Players Bar is a converted barn. It overlooks the final hole of the back nine, so you can reminisce over sinking the winning putt with a pint in your hand.
The decking offers an excellent place to catch up and enjoy some drinks in the summer months, whereas the cosy and inviting atmosphere on the inside will keep you for a while.
Who put in the best performance? Who was the duffer of the round? Who owes you a beer for that birdie bet? Settle up, count the scorecards, and prepare the forfeit for the loser and the trophy for the winner.
After all, it was a blinder of a performance.
