Golf Resorts & Hotels in Costa Blanca

Why Golfers Travel to the Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca enjoys a warm, dry Mediterranean climate with mild winters. That makes it a favourite for winter-sun golf as well as spring and autumn breaks.

Flights from the UK take around two and a half hours, and there are frequent services into Alicante from airports across the country. Many of the golf courses in Costa Blanca are within 30-45 minutes of the airport.

Golfers visiting the Costa Blanca will find:

  • Championship courses by Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros, plus one of Spain's top-ranked courses at El Saler
  • Forgiving resort courses that suit mixed-handicap groups
  • Golf hotels and resorts with the course on the doorstep
  • Beaches, tapas bars and nightlife between rounds

The biggest advantage? Value. The Costa Blanca offers some of the best-priced golf breaks in Spain, without compromising on course quality.

The Best Golf Courses in Costa Blanca

The golf courses in Costa Blanca are spread along the coast in three main areas. Here are the courses that regularly feature on our golf itineraries.

Benidorm and Alicante

In the hills above Benidorm, Melia Villaitana is home to two Jack Nicklaus designs. The Levante Course is a 7,191-yard championship layout with more than 100 bunkers and three large lakes. The Poniente Course is a shorter par 62 that tests your short game.

Closer to Alicante, Club de Golf Alenda is a host of DP World Tour Qualifying School, just 20 minutes from the airport. Font del Llop offers tree-lined fairways and plenty of variety in the Alicante countryside.

Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja

South of Alicante is the heart of Costa Blanca golf. La Finca is a Pepe Gancedo design with wide, forgiving fairways, ideal for mixed-ability groups. La Marquesa is one of the area's oldest courses and even features a replica of Sawgrass's famous island-green 17th.

Villamartin opened in 1972 and hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open. Nearby, Las Ramblas is a tight, tree-lined test with dramatic doglegs. Lo Romero finishes on an island green, and Vistabella is a hilly Manuel Piñero design with a demanding downhill par 3 at the 15th.

Just south of here, over the border in Murcia, the Mar Menor resorts and La Manga Club are covered in our Murcia golf holidays guide. They're an easy add-on for groups based near Torrevieja.

Valencia and the north

Further north, near Valencia, El Saler is one of the finest courses in Spain. Javier Arana's 1968 design runs through dunes and pine forest beside the sea, and Golf World ranks it third in Spain. Down the coast, Oliva Nova is a Seve Ballesteros design with coastal views and plenty of water.

When Is the Best Time to Play Golf in Costa Blanca?

One of the reasons golfers keep returning to the golf courses in Costa Blanca is the long, reliable season.

Spring (March May)

Warm, sunny days and courses in excellent condition. This is peak season, so book tee times early.

Summer (June August)

Hot, with temperatures often in the 30s. Tee off early and save the afternoon for the pool or beach.

Autumn (September November)

Arguably the best time to visit. It's still warm, the sea is at its warmest and the summer crowds have gone.

Winter (December February)

Mild and sunny, and one of the best winter-sun golf options in Europe. Green fees are often lower too.

Planning a Golf Trip to Costa Blanca

A golf trip to the Costa Blanca works best when you pick a base close to the courses you want to play.

South of Alicante, La Finca Resort puts you on the course, while the beachfront Hotel Meridional is a short drive from La Marquesa, Las Ramblas, Lo Romero and Vistabella. Near Benidorm, Melia Villaitana sits between its two Nicklaus courses.

Near Valencia, stay at the Parador El Saler, right beside the course, or the Oliva Nova Hotel on the Oliva Nova resort.

Between rounds you can:

  • Walk up to Alicante's Santa Bárbara Castle for views over the city and coast
  • Explore the whitewashed old town of Altea
  • Enjoy Benidorm's beaches and nightlife
  • Try a proper paella in Valencia, where the dish was born

Our ready-made packages start with a 2-night, 2-round break at La Finca Resort and go up to 7 nights and 5 rounds at Hotel Meridional. If you'd prefer something tailored, you can build your own golf trip.

Travel Tips for Visiting Golfers

When planning a trip to the golf courses in Costa Blanca, a few practical tips will make the trip run smoothly.

Book tee times early - Spring and autumn are busy with UK and Scandinavian golfers.

Pick the right airport - Alicante suits most courses, while Valencia is best for El Saler and Oliva Nova.

Hire a car or book transfers - The courses are spread along the coast, so plan your travel between rounds.

Pack for the sun - Even in winter the sun is strong, so bring sun cream and a hat.
