Full Course Lowdown

Frilford Heath Golf Club has something that most courses don't: three championship tournament-hosting courses, with Red and Blue featuring in England's Top 200.

As well as this, Frilford Heath boasts world-class practice facilities, with a state-of-the-art Launch Monitor, a large outdoor driving range, an academy course, and a chipping area, meaning you can loosen up before the round.

At 10.6 miles from Oxford city centre, this trip is ideal if you want to conquer the finest fairways and explore the historical city centre and cosy pubs in your downtime.

Course

Red

Known for hosting the regional qualifiers for The Open Championship, English Amateurs, and the European Tour 1st Stage Qualifying since 2011, this is an underrated gem!

Frilford Heath Red ranks as the 122nd-best course in England, so it's a must-try.

Not only is this Frilford's best, but it's also the hardest. Prepare yourself for a trio of lengthy par-4s on the 5th, 7th, and 8th, all over 400 yards. Harsh!

At over 7,000 yards, this one is for the low handicaps, scratch golfers, and pros--maybe duffers should sit this one out.

Blue

Frilford's Blue Course opened in 1994 and has hosted European Pro Tour events and the Scratch Salver Amateur event.

Blue ranks 156th in England, and this one will really test your short game, with undulating greens making putting even more frustrating. How many three-putts will you take?

Most of the early holes feature water hazards, doglegs, and challenging bunkers throughout, but the rest of the course is forgiving compared to Red.

Green

While the Green is overshadowed by its neighbours, this one is the members' favourite because of the many birdie opportunities.

Green is a classic heathland course. Prepare for gorse, dunes, fast fairway, pot bunkers, and the most entertaining of all the rounds at Frilford.

Measuring 6,025 yards, and a par of 69, this one is a cracking option for a group of mixed-ability or beginner duffers looking to play their first 18 holes on a golf trip.

Green's signature holes are 7 - 15, famously known as the "short 9". Each has remained untouched and features the original characteristics designed by the genius J.H. Taylor.

Clubhouse

Frilford Heath's Clubhouse is open Monday through Sunday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, so it's an ideal setting to prepare for your morning tee time or kick back and relax afterwards.

The breakfast menu boasts the classic golfer's breakfast: bacon rolls or a full English--perfect fuel for a killer round.

On the main menu, take your pick from a cheeseburger and chips to club sandwiches to fill your stomach after walking 18 holes. Cracking.

After sinking birdie putts, you've earned that ice-cold swing oil, so get stuck into the well-stocked bar.
