Top hint for this course
Let's give you a tip, as you're the one handling the booking process. On the 16th, you face a difficult par-4, with a fairway plagued with bunkers. The length on this one is deceiving, so we recommend using two clubs more than usual for this par-4.
Full Course Lowdown
Another testament to Portugal's list of heavyweight courses. Since the Portuguese Open in 1994, many avid golfers flock to the Penha Longa Resort to take on this challenge. It's a stunning natural course with unique holes throughout.
Set in the mountains, the wind often affects play and causes frustration, so consider this. Famously, each hole back-to-back provides entertainment and a true test of skills-who will win your very own Portuguese Open?
Course
On the 3rd, it's best to leave your ego behind. Players who try to carry the bunkers are often punished, so favour the right side of the fairway and use an extra club for the approach towards the elevated green.
The 6th hole is another highlight. An old aqueduct to the right, and a large water hazard on the left, means you should play cautiously. The green slopes towards the river, so favour the right side of the green to avoid a drop ball (you've already lost enough balls).
A picturesque par-3 on the 15th, but the hole isn't as gentle as the surroundings. Another slope threatens to tip your ball in the river if you hit the front of the green, so aim for the back with a sweet shot. Then, prepare to stun the squad with your putting skills.
Hole 18 is favoured by big hitters. A tree-lined fairway requires a straight drive down the centre, so your friend that slices it might hit some trouble. If you made progress towards the pin, aim for the left side of the dancefloor.
Clubhouse
No clubhouse, no problem. How about 7 different restaurants and bars? Forget the classic club sandwich and chips-enter steak and wine, Michelin-starred Japanese cuisine, Portuguese afternoon tea, Italian dishes, salads, and an open grill.
They say Portugal's wine is A*, and the resort sells some of the best. The gang deserves a treat after conquering the fairways, so share a luxurious bottle while analysing the action and planning the next round.

The Location
Located on the Penha Longa Resort premises, your stay is just a putting distance from the course. Entertainment is provided from the get-go, and you probably wouldn't even need to leave the resort, but why do that when Lisbon is calling?
On top of this, Humberto Delgado Airport is 30.2km away, so you could get that first round in within the hour of landing.
If you want an authentic Portuguese experience, look no further than Lisbon city centre. Only 33.4km from the loop, and what an experience you'll have.
Lisbon is one of Europe's most vibrant cities, with stunning architecture, sublime restaurants, and the home of both Sagres and Pastel del Nata-the perfect fuel for a bouncing night out.
