Overview
Arabella Golf Course is one of South Africa's most celebrated resort layouts, set beside the Bot River Lagoon in the Western Cape. Framed by fynbos-covered mountains and open water, it offers a golf experience that feels big, dramatic and unmistakably South African. Designed by Peter Matkovich and opened in 1999, Arabella Golf Course mixes championship pedigree with unforgettable scenery. It's playable, polished and full of shot values. Hit the right lines and it rewards you. Get sloppy, and it quickly fights back!
The Course
The layout at Arabella Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course stretching to 6,803 yards from the back tees. The routing moves through natural wetlands, strategic bunkering and exposed stretches beside the lagoon, so wind and positioning both matter. This is not a course you overpower. You think your way around it. The fairways are beautifully presented, the greens are consistently strong, and the variety from hole to hole keeps the round feeling fresh. A few holes invite aggression. Others demand restraint. That balance is what makes Arabella Golf Course such a memorable test.
Signature holes
The 8th hole (Par 5) is one of the most talked-about holes at Arabella Golf Course. Playing downhill towards the lagoon, it combines a spectacular view with genuine decision-making. It's beautiful, exposed and brilliantly framed - a true bucket-list par 5.
The 18th hole (Par 5) is a famous finisher and one of the finest closing holes in South Africa. A huge waste area and the lagoon shape the strategy, asking whether you play safely in three or take on the risk. It's a thrilling way to settle a match and end the round.
The Clubhouse
The clubhouse at Arabella Golf Course rounds the experience off properly. Smart, comfortable and in keeping with the wider resort, it's an easy place to relax after your round. Expect good food, a polished atmosphere and lovely views back towards the course. Whether you're recapping the day over drinks or lining up the next tee time, it adds to the premium feel that makes Arabella Golf Course such a popular stop on South Africa golf trips.
