Overview
Ballycastle Golf Club is a north coast "hidden gem" that blends links grit with parkland charm. Founded in 1890, it's been shaped over generations, growing into an 18-hole test that's as scenic as it is satisfying.
You'll play beside the Causeway Coast, then climb to hill-top holes with big, panoramic views-Rathlin Island is the headline, and on clear days you can even spot the Mull of Kintyre.
The Course
This is Ballycastle Golf Club at its best: quick decisions, honest shot values, and constant variety. Some holes sit low and feel "true links"; others rise into the hillside and demand controlled ball flight and tidy distance control. The club notes the course was lengthened in 1906, and extended to 18 holes in 1926, with the layout remaining largely unchanged since.
I'd describe it as a "thinker's course". Hit it in the right place and you'll have makeable birdie looks. Miss your spots and you'll be scrambling-fast.
Signature holes (2 holes)
Hole 17 (Par 3)
A brilliant short hole with a heart-rate spike built in. Locally known as "The Pitch", you play from a tee perched above a green sitting more than 100 feet below-and the view is genuinely unforgettable. Take it in… then commit!
Hole 18 (Par 5)
A proper finishing hole: long, but "kinder" off the tee, with a fairway that runs parallel to the road and sets you up for a bold last push. And yes-the club's description nods to the real reward: a restorative cup of tea… or a stout at the 19th!
The Clubhouse
Post-round, Ballycastle Golf Club keeps things simple and welcoming. The club's on-site dining is now centred around 19ByKatherineCarr.
If you're building a Causeway Coast itinerary, this is a smart stop: memorable golf, spectacular scenery, and a relaxed finish that makes the whole day feel like a proper trip-rather than "just a round."
