Top hint for this course
It's only right that we give you a tip-off. On the 5th, it's a par-5 that's reachable in two strokes. However, wind often comes into play, so we recommend playing it cautiously in three shots instead. You'll likely avoid the bunkers this way and set up a sweet approach shot. Doesn't pull off? At least the wind is an excuse, hey?
Overview
It's one of the most famous loops in Wales, hosting British and European Tours, welcoming previous Ryder Cup winners, and ranking near the best for Welsh courses. It's that good. Not to mention it's an opportunity to play one of Wales's finest links.
Harry Vardon, a golfing legend claimed this was his favourite in Wales. So why not follow in all the great's footsteps? Who's the next Harry Vardon?
Course
The opening hole is an excellent start. It features an elevated tee-off in front of the 19th hole (no pressure) and six bunkers surround the green. Do you play this par-3 cautiously, or take the risky approach and aim straight for the green?
On the 5th, you face the first par-5. The wide fairway offers an exciting chance for a scorcher off the tee. Avoiding the hazards near the green with a technical chip shot could present you with a birdie chance.
The 15th is tough. Don't say we didn't warn you about this one. The undulated green alongside the many dunes dotted throughout make this fairway incredibly difficult to navigate.
The end of the back nine is one of the signatures. The fairway holds a dogleg left and the green is elevated, making it an action-packed hole to finish the round.
Clubhouse
A 19th hole that oozes historical characteristics. It was built almost 30 years after the course in 1924, with modern renovations maintaining its early 20th-century charm. It overlooks the 1st and 18th, with a large patio for relaxing-the best arena for a post-round analysis.
Whether you're having a light snack or a comforting meal, grab a pint to quench that thirst from the loop and count up the scorecards. Pints are on the duffer of the round.
