Pirin: The Ultimate Golf Travel Guide

An Ian Woosnam championship course, the Pirin Mountains on every horizon and a five-star hotel where your food, drinks and golf are all included. That’s what makes Pirin golf holidays such outstanding value. Set in the Razlog valley in south-west Bulgaria, a few minutes from the ski town of Bansko, Pirin Golf & Country Club is one of the best all-inclusive golf breaks in Europe.

For travelling golfers, Pirin is all about keeping things simple. You stay at Pirin Golf Hotel & Spa, walk to the first tee and play as many rounds as you like. Every package includes all-inclusive dining with premium drinks, spa access and airport transfers, so once you’ve paid there’s very little left to spend.

If you’re looking for a golf break where the only decision is whether to play 18 or 36 holes today, Pirin deserves serious consideration.

Why Golfers Travel to Pirin

Pirin sits in a high mountain valley, so summers are warm and sunny rather than baking hot. The golf season runs from spring to autumn, with long, bright days for unlimited golf.

Flights from the UK to Sofia take around three hours, and the resort is around two and a half hours from Sofia Airport by road. Airport transfers are included in all our packages.

Golfers visiting Pirin will find:

  • Unlimited golf on an 18-hole Ian Woosnam championship course
  • All-inclusive dining with premium drinks across the resort’s restaurants and bars
  • A full spa with indoor and outdoor pools, included in every package
  • Mountain views, a golf academy and the lively town of Bansko nearby

The biggest advantage? Value. With golf, food, drink and transfers all in the price, a week at Pirin can cost less than a long weekend at many European golf resorts.

The Golf at Pirin Golf & Country Club

Everything at Pirin centres on one course, designed by a Masters champion and former Ryder Cup captain.

The Ian Woosnam Course

Opened in 2008, the Ian Woosnam Course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship layout of just over 6,100 metres from the back tees. Woosnam used the natural shape of the valley, with elevation changes, more than 50 bunkers, four lakes and a mountain river in play. The Pirin Mountains form the backdrop to almost every hole.

With several sets of tees and generous landing areas, the course suits mixed ability groups, while the bunkering and water keep it a test for low handicappers. With unlimited golf, you can play it in the morning, learn its secrets and go back out in the afternoon.

The Pine Course and practice facilities

Alongside the main course, there’s a short Pine Course for a quick few holes, plus a driving range, short game area and a golf academy with PGA professional tuition. It’s the ideal place to warm up before a round or sort out a swing fault between rounds.

When Is the Best Time to Play Golf in Pirin?

Pirin’s mountain setting gives it a different season from the Bulgarian coast.

Spring (April to May)

The season opens, with fresh mornings, snow on the peaks and the course coming into its best condition. Great value for early season trips.

Summer (June to August)

Warm, sunny days that are cooler than the Black Sea coast and southern Europe. Long evenings mean plenty of time for a second round.

Autumn (September to October)

Arguably the best time to visit. Settled weather, autumn colours on the mountains and ideal temperatures for 36 holes a day.

Winter (November to March)

The course closes for winter as Bansko turns into one of Bulgaria’s top ski resorts. Plan your golf trip for spring to autumn.

Planning a Golf Trip to Pirin

A golf trip to Pirin couldn’t be easier to plan, because everything is in one place.

Pirin Golf Hotel & Spa is the resort’s own hotel, a short walk from the first tee. Rooms are modern and spacious, many with mountain views, and there are twins, doubles and suites to suit any group. The all-inclusive covers premium drinks and dining across the resort’s restaurants, and the spa has indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, steam rooms and treatments for tired legs. There’s a sports bar too, so you won’t miss the big match.

Between rounds you can:

  • Explore Bansko’s cobbled old town and its traditional mehana taverns
  • Take the gondola into the Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Relax in the hot mineral springs at nearby Banya
  • Ride the narrow gauge mountain railway through the Rhodope and Rila foothills

Our ready-made packages start with a 3-night unlimited golf break from £425pp, rising to 5 nights from £555pp and a full 7-night all-inclusive golf week from £725pp. If you’d prefer something tailored, you can build your own golf trip.

Travel Tips for Visiting Golfers

When planning your Pirin golf trip, a few practical tips will make it run smoothly.

Plan for the transfer: The drive from Sofia takes around two and a half hours. It’s included in your package, so time your flights to arrive by early afternoon and you’ll be at the bar for dinner.

Pace yourself - Unlimited golf is tempting. Play 36 holes on your best weather days and use the spa on the others.

Pack layers - Mornings and evenings in the mountains can be cool, even in summer, so bring a jumper and a waterproof.

Bring some euros - The resort is all-inclusive, but you’ll want cash for Bansko’s taverns and shops. Bulgaria switched from the lev to the euro on 1 January 2026.

Travelling as a group - See how it works for small deposits and individual payments, ideal for golf societies and golf stag dos.
