Top hint for this course

How about a tip for the opening hole? On this par-5, favour the left side of the fairway to begin. Next, try to approach from the right of the fairway onto the elevated green for the best angle.

Course Top Tip

Overview

A course with wide fairways and fast greens always guarantees an exciting round. Galway Bay rests on the Irish landscape and uses the characteristics of the terrain to test golfers of all abilities.

The 1989 Ryder Cup legend, O'Connor, knows a thing or two about building challenging yet enjoyable courses, and it's evident throughout Galway Bay.

Course

On the 3rd, your tee shot is important. Rough to the left and out-of-bounds on the right mean a straight tee off down the middle of the fairway should be favoured. The raised green makes the approach rather tricky, so choose your club wisely.

At the end of the front nine, accuracy is important again. Bunkers line the left of the track, so favour the right-hand side. The approach will be enjoyable here-it's the largest dancefloor on the course.

Time for the signature hole. The 12th is the most difficult on the course, with wind affecting play and water disrupting the second shot. On top of this, the green slopes from back to front, so aim for the back of the green on your approach.

Unfortunately, the final hole doesn't ease up. With out-of-bounds on both sides of the narrow fairway, you'll need to navigate carefully around it. Two bunkers are on either side of the green, so take your time to approach. Next, let your putting do the talking.

Clubhouse

What a place. Galway Bay is famous for its stunning clubhouse with a strong selection of beverages and grub to fuel a winning round or to recover after the course. There's nothing like a 6oz bacon burger to kick-start the evening of drinking ahead.

Overlook the fairways you owned, grab some swing oil, and analyse the action with the group.
