Top hint for this course
Let's give you a secret tip to get ahead of the gang. The 9th hole is an uphill par-5 with a tree in the middle. It cleverly blocks your view of the fairway, where some hidden walls feature on the right-hand side. We recommend you avoid this surprise by favouring the left side of the tree.
Full Course Lowdown
This may not be the championship course, but it certainly deserves recognition as one of Derby's finest.
What's great about this one is that you can enjoy its beauty all year round, thanks to its exceptional drainage system. Even if it rains, you won't be wasting your time and money as you can still experience the classic terrain that it has to offer.
So, if you enjoy the magic of winter golf, or prefer getting a tan while playing in the warmer months, this one is great for everybody.
Course
The start of the front nine is a par-3. It's a difficult start and many players go for a long iron to attack the fairway and gain distance towards the two-tiered green. Next, the 2nd doesn't get any easier. A difficult uphill par-4 that many suggest is the hardest of the round.
Towards the end of the front nine, the holes become more pleasant. There are some great chances for birdies until you reach the 8th, a fairly long par-4 that is a great test of a golfer's driving strength and IQ.
The back nine starts nicely. From tee-off, you can't see the green but that's something a scorcher of a drive can fix. Let your driving do the talking.
On the 12th, a large tree disrupts the fairway, and it also narrows towards the green making the approach difficult. The 18th provides a great finish with an elevated tee with a large green. After all, the course has been harsh so it's the least you deserve.
Clubhouse
After the tricky game, get stuck into everybody's favourite post-golf activity, the 19th hole. Have a pint while analysing the action and settling up on bet money. You won that game of greenies fair and square.
Have a comforting meal to replenish yourself while you count up the scorecards, sit back and plan the evening
