Full Course Lowdown
Wales National was designed by Steve Redgrave, Olympic gold medallist, and is familiar with prestigious European tournaments.
At 7,433 yards, this woodland course is a cracking challenge of distance and accuracy for low handicaps. With narrow fairways and natural hazards, you will have to battle your way to the greens.
The course is 14.7 miles from Cardiff, so this is a perfect start for your Wales golf trip and an ideal location for exploring in your downtime. Swing into action and play your own European Challenge Tour.
When we say the Wales National tests distance, we mean it.
Let's start with the 2nd hole. At 607 yards (yes, you read that correctly), this narrow fairway requires complete accuracy off the tees.
After several slices and divots, it's time for the approach shot. Take an extra club to avoid the drink but remember that anything overhit could find the bunker or woods behind the dancefloor.
Unfortunately, there's more water on the 14th, so put your Srixon away.
This 203-yard par-3 requires complete accuracy, with water at the front and two large bunkers guarding either side of the green.
Hole 16 is a 495-yard par-4. Clear the harsh dogleg right, avoid the tree in the middle of the fairway, and set yourself up for a sweet approach shot from a distance.
Favour the right side of the green to steer clear of the bunker and then hole out for a birdie--but don't be disappointed with a par.
The Vale's clubhouse is absolutely thriving. But this isn't the average 19th-hole experience, the menu is unmatched with juicy burgers, massive steaks and pizza--perfect scran to refuel after 18 holes.
Come for the live sports on screen and top-drawer selection of pints and stay for the welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Cheers to that!
On top of this, the pro shop sells all the essential apparel and equipment. Why not treat yourself?
