Overview
Royal Cape Golf Club is one of South Africa's most historic golfing venues and, established in 1885, it is widely recognised as the oldest golf club in Africa. Set beneath Table Mountain in Cape Town, Royal Cape Golf Club blends heritage, tournament pedigree and classic shot values in a way few courses can match. It is also the current host of the Cape Town Open and has previously staged the South African Open on ten occasions.
The Course
At its core, Royal Cape Golf Club is a par-72 championship parkland course designed by Charles Murray. Expect tree-lined fairways, strong bunkering, and a layout that becomes even more exacting when the famous Cape wind gets up. We like it because it asks proper golfing questions. Position matters. Accuracy matters. And that makes every good score feel earned!
The course is relatively flat and highly walkable, but don't mistake that for easy. Royal Cape Golf Club has hosted top professional and amateur events for a reason. It is a traditional layout with real championship character, and winners here have included names such as Gary Player, Ernie Els, Mark McNulty and Trevor Immelman.
Signature Holes
3rd Hole
The 3rd is one of the standout tests at Royal Cape Golf Club. It is one of the country's longest par 4s, with water built into the right half of the fairway near the landing zone and approach area. It is a hole that immediately tells you what Royal Cape Golf Club is about: strategy first, execution second, no shortcuts.
14th Hole
If there is one hole most often singled out at Royal Cape Golf Club, it is the 14th. This doglegging par 4 bends sharply right around a large fairway bunker, tall pines and a storage dam, and it is widely recognised as the club's signature hole. It is memorable, demanding and a genuine card-wrecker if you lose concentration.
The Clubhouse
The experience does not end at the 18th. Royal Cape Golf Club offers a clubhouse with a restaurant and bar
