Top hint for this course

On the 2nd, a par-4, aim straight off the tee box to remove the dogleg right for the second stroke. From here, carry over the front bunker and hit the pin.

Full Course Lowdown

Machrihanish Dunes is a classic links course: undulated fairways, cruel bunkers, earthy terrain, and a lengthy layout. You must tick this one off your links bucket list.

Are you ready? Grab your clubs, make the trip to golf's home nation, and discover the way golf was meant to be played. Good luck.

Course

It could be a worse start. This par-4 is 341 yards, so the green is reachable in two strokes. Hit straight from the tee box, and then the approach should be simple.

On the 5th par-3, it eases up slightly, with only one bunker to the left of the dancefloor. Anything overhit will find the rough. Let's not slip up on a par-3.

A par-4 closes the front nine. Big hitters must avoid the first bunkers from the back tee--favour the right if necessary. Take the risk-reward shot, carry the bunkers and leave a simple approach.

The 15th is parallel to the beach, so you can kiss goodbye to your new Pro V1s if you hit any hooks. If you manage to find the fairway, carry the sand and aim directly for the flag. Easy.

It all comes down to the final hole. A scorcher with your driver should land in a central position with roughly 150 yards remaining, use a short iron to find the large dancefloor.

Now it's time to let your putting do the talking.

Clubhouse

This 19th hole is pure history and has been standing since 1876. Grab your favourite drink and make a toast to golf's founders.

Does it get more cosy than a 19th-century clubhouse? Kick back and relax in the same place as Old Tom Morris and enjoy the insane pub grub on offer. It's the business.

It doesn't stop here. If you're seeking a modern-style clubhouse, head to "The Golf House" for a lively atmosphere and classic clubhouse scran.

You're spoilt for choice--but why not just visit both?
