Top hint for this course

On the 1st, distance management is key. Two bodies of water are placed awkwardly along the fairway, so it's best to lay up before both to avoid hitting the drink and scoring a par.

Full Course Lowdown

Quinta do Vale is tucked away in the East Algarve, almost bordering Spain, and this location is highly underrated for golf.

Ballesteros created a testing course-it's not for the faint-hearted.

The clever positioning of bunkers and common water hazards create a test of IQ and club selection. Who will come out on top? Grab your clubs, hit the fairways, and find out!

Course

A par-3 waits at the second, and it's not straightforward. The distance is short, but with a bunker left of the green, and a lake to the right, favour accuracy to land near the pin and avoid the hazards.

Again, water will cause trouble on the 7th. Drive to the left of the fairway to remove the slight dogleg right, then use the second shot to lay up before the green. The lay-up is key, as any over-hit shots will find the water.

At the end of the front nine, Ballesteros' cruel hazard placement will punish anything less than accurate. The dancefloor has sand at the back, and water at the front, so select your club wisely.

For the 15th, open up your shoulders and aim centre left-but avoid the tree in the centre. Your lumberjack friend might struggle. Afterwards, the approach to the large green is a breeze.

To finish, you guessed it, there's water. Clearing the yardage is easy, but depending on where you land, the water will determine the amount of strokes it takes to finish. Will you lay up or go for the pin on your second?

Clubhouse

This 19th hole looks a bit like a terrace in a Portuguese villa. We're not complaining. Overlook the course you conquered and top up your tan as you analyse the action with the gang.

After an awesome round, this place tops it off. Order some delicious Mediterranean cuisine and grab yourself an ice-cold cerveza. You've earned it.

The Location

Quinta do Vale is on the brink of the Spanish border, in the East Algarve region, so it's an ideal location for stunning restaurants, calm beaches, and top-tier golf.

And there's a handful of hotels, ranging for all budgets, dotted across the area. Sorting somewhere to stay is a cinch.

As well as this, you're never too far from a wine bar or a lively cocktail joint with a wide selection of beverages to cool down from the sun. Perfection.

Faro International Airport is only 64.5km from the course, so if Quinta do Vale is your first round, or you fancy staying nearby, then it will take you around an hour to head over.

The PR1ME Energizer is an awesome place to stay, with all the facilities a group could need to complete a golf holiday in the Algarve, and it's only 16.3km away.

You're also near to Monte Rei North Course, which is the 14th best in Continental Europe, and you can't leave that untouched. It's only 15.3km away from Quinta do Vale.
