A Legendary 3-Day Golf Trip to Swansea

Swansea Golf Trip

If you’re looking for a golf break that blends stunning coastal views, modern championship courses, and a warm Welsh welcome, Swansea should be on your list. We recently headed down for a 3-day golf trip, basing ourselves at The Dragon Hotel right in the city centre — and it proved the perfect hub for exploring some of South Wales’ finest golf.

Day 1 – Pennard Golf Club

Pennard Golf Club

Nicknamed the “Links in the Sky,” Pennard Golf Club is unlike anywhere else. Perched high above the Gower Peninsula, the course offers sweeping views over Three Cliffs Bay, castle ruins dotted across the fairways, and rolling links terrain that tests every club in the bag. It’s dramatic, challenging, and breathtaking all in one — a proper bucket-list round to kick off our trip.

Day 2 – Machynys Peninsula

Machynys Peninsula

On day two, we switched gears with a round at Machynys Peninsula, Wales’ only Nicklaus-designed course. Wide fairways, tricky water hazards, and immaculate greens made it a true championship experience (it’s hosted the Ladies European Tour more than once). After a long round, the modern clubhouse and terrace overlooking the estuary were just the spot for a post-game pint.

Day 3 – Ashburnham Golf Club

Ashburnham Golf Club

We rounded off the trip with a classic: Ashburnham Golf Club, one of Wales’ oldest and most respected links. A favourite of legends like Dai Rees and Bernard Gallacher, it’s a proper old-school test where accuracy is rewarded and wayward shots get punished quickly. The finishing stretch along the coast was the perfect way to end our Swansea golf adventure before heading home.

Where We Stayed – The Dragon Hotel

Dragon Hotel

Throughout the trip, we stayed at The Dragon Hotel in Swansea city centre. Comfy rooms, great breakfasts, and secure parking for the clubs made it a solid choice. Plus, being right in the heart of Swansea meant we could grab a few pints in Wind Street after the rounds.

Final Thoughts

Three rounds, three very different golf experiences, and one great base. A Swansea golf trip gives you rugged coastal links, modern championship golf, and plenty of nightlife to keep the evenings lively. If you’re looking for a golf holiday that ticks every box, Swansea delivers.
