{"id":470,"date":"2024-05-14T14:27:02","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T13:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/?p=470"},"modified":"2025-11-10T11:44:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T11:44:55","slug":"groupiagolf-go-to-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/groupiagolf-go-to-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"GroupiaGolf Go To Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Steve is one of our experts at GroupiaGolf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he got a whiff of the chance to play in the home of golf, he organised his clubs, got his mates together and started practising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read below to find out everything Steve discovered on his trip to Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Archerfield Links #shorts\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gsWH777PpSI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Getting to Scotland?<\/strong> \ud83d\udeeb<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/getting-to-scotland.jpg\" alt=\"Packing golf clubs\" class=\"wp-image-473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/getting-to-scotland.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/getting-to-scotland-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>We flew up from Bristol on the early flight with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easyjet.com\/en\">EasyJet<\/a> which only took 50 minutes to get to Edinburgh Airport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnce we got there, we hopped in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/gb\/en\/\">Uber<\/a> to Archerfield Links which took about 45 minutes.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you don\u2019t have transfers, GroupiaGolf can provide them from the airport to take you to your destination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Were Your First Thoughts?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe trip was booked when the weather at home was horrible, with the local course being closed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we got to Scotland, we were pleasantly surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was glorious sunshine both days and the ground was bone dry being a links course with natural sand drainage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Course Did You Play?<\/strong> \u26f3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/which-golf-did-you-play-1.jpg\" alt=\"Archerfield links\" class=\"wp-image-474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/which-golf-did-you-play-1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/which-golf-did-you-play-1-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe played both courses at Archerfield Links. Fidra on day 1 and Dirleton on day 2.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth courses were in amazing condition for February, and both provided their own tests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLuckily the wind was light, so it wasn\u2019t as tough as it could\u2019ve been.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe played double Matchplay, losing 2 and 1 on day 1, but getting revenge on day 2 winning 3 and 2.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Were the Facilities Like?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe facilities are some of the best in the world, with a double-ended driving range, one housing the Callaway performance centre.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe bar and restaurant were superb, with a range of amazing food and drink options.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Difficult Are Links Compared to Parkland Courses?<\/strong> \ud83c\udf3f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/how-difficult-links.jpg\" alt=\"Archerfield difficulty\" class=\"wp-image-475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/how-difficult-links.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/how-difficult-links-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArcherfield is a Links course, but not many of the holes actually run along the seafront on Fidra, and none on the Dirleton.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost a hybrid set-up between a Links and a Parkland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Advice Would You Give To Somebody Playing Links for the First Time?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe combination of Links and Parkland at Archerfield means your ball is going to move in the wind and get stuck under the tree line at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBecause of this, you really need to have a knockdown\/punch shot in your arsenal, just to get back in play, if nothing else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Did You Hire A Buggy or Walk the Course?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hire-buggy-walk.jpg\" alt=\"Walking Archerfield links\" class=\"wp-image-477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hire-buggy-walk.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hire-buggy-walk-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to take in all the views, so we walked and carried both days.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou could only hire a buggy on one course anyway because of the previous bad weather.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Let\u2019s Talk Accommodation<\/strong> \ud83c\udfe8<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/accommodation.jpg\" alt=\"Archerfield golf lodges\" class=\"wp-image-478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/accommodation.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/accommodation-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe stayed on-site in one of the Archerfield lodges, located a 2-minute drive from the club.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe lodges were incredible, and they had everything you could wish for, a large lounge area with an open fire, balconies, a huge kitchen area, and every room was a double ensuite.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur particular lodge overlooked the 1<sup>st<\/sup> green on the Dirleton course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Was the Travel Between the Course and the Accommodation?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe travel was 2 minutes by car.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs part of the Archerfield experience, they put on an executive minivan service, so when you are ready, one of the friendly porters will make the call, and your driver will arrive in 5 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was first-class service throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When is the Best Time to Go?<\/strong> \ud83c\udf1e<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cScottish courses can be played year-round.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we went in February, the weather was fantastic, and the course was not that busy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s certainly an exclusive venue, and they don\u2019t allow that many visitors, except from the odd 4-ball.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Did You Take Your Clubs or Hire at the Course?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/take-clubs-or-hire.jpg\" alt=\"Clubs at Archerfield\" class=\"wp-image-479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/take-clubs-or-hire.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/take-clubs-or-hire-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe took our own clubs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile hiring clubs can be useful, there\u2019s nothing quite like playing a top course with your own set.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Any Non-Golf Activities?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe only stayed for 1 night, so we didn\u2019t have a lot of time.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If we stayed for longer, we would\u2019ve headed down to North Berwick, where there are some amazing traditional pubs and restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe spoke to several members during our time at Archerfield, and nearly all of them recommended a night out in North Berwick.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where Did You Eat and Drink?<\/strong> \ud83c\udf77<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/food.jpg\" alt=\"Food and drink at Archerfield\" class=\"wp-image-480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/food.jpg 620w, https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/guides\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/food-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe ate on-site at the club, where they had some amazing food options.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe fillet steak was fantastic, and their wine selection wasn\u2019t bad either.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Package Would You Recommend?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would certainly recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/packages\/craigie-law-lodge-3-nights-4-rounds\">Craigielaw Golf Club<\/a> for anybody heading to Scotland, which is a 5-minute drive from Archerfield.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would also encourage people to head up the coast towards <a href=\"https:\/\/groupiagolf.com\/packages\/fairmont-st-andrews-2-nights-2-rounds\">St. Andrews<\/a>, the home of golf.
