When we asked Jamie if he wanted to leave the UK and play golf in sunny Tenerife, he started practising and packed his clubs ASAP.
At GroupiaGolf, we always try to have the best inside knowledge, so we sent Jamie to give you the down-low on everything, from the greens to the clubhouse.
Check out Jamie’s experience below!
Getting There… ✈️
“The flight from Bristol Airport to Tenerife South airport was about 4 and a half hours.
“We had an airport transfer waiting, so getting there was easy.
“I would pre-book a taxi or airport transfer to make things smooth when you arrive.”
Did You Travel with Your Clubs? 🧳
“Absolutely!
“I always travel with my clubs because I think it’s easier to use my own; I have a travel bag.
“I avoid renting clubs if I can, it’s just not the same as your own, so take your clubs on holiday if you can.”
First Thoughts… 💭
“It was my first time in Tenerife, but I was prepared for world-class fairways, and they didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t wait to tee off!
“The weather was amazing, and it was super hot when we arrived. It was very different to playing golf in September in the UK.”
Where Did You Stay? 🏨
“I stayed in Tivoli La Caleta, Hacienda Del Conde Melia, and Barcelo.
“All of the staff were friendly, and each boasted the facilities I needed. The swimming pools were great!
“Hacienda is at Buenavista, so it’s just a few steps away, which was convenient because we could just walk to our tee time.
“For the other two, we got a minibus, and it took about 5-10 minutes.”
What Courses Did You Play? ⛳
“I was lucky enough to play Costa Adeje, Buenavista, and Golf del Sur. All of them had amazing sea views and the conditions were top-tier.
“Thankfully, I didn’t hit any houses up the side of the fairways.
“My favourite hole was the 10th at Buenavista, which plays towards the coast from an elevated tee. It was absolutely unreal.
“Costa Adeje has really narrow fairways, so if you missed you were out of bounds.
“Buenavista’s fairways were a bit more forgiving, but as it’s on the North coast of Tenerife, I had to deal with the wind on this one.
“Golf Del Sur had the toughest rough, so you have to keep to the fairways here. It’s a shorter course than the other two, but it tests your accuracy.”
Did You Hire a Buggy? 🚗
“Yes, and Buenavista is quite hilly so I would get a buggy there for sure.
“The courses are walkable, but I wouldn’t recommend it in the heat.”
The Facilities… 🏌️♂️
“My favourite was the buggy bars on each course.
“Yep, buggies come around throughout. The Dorada local pilsner was lovely and refreshing—the perfect way to cool down.
“The clubhouses were brilliant, all with lively, well-stocked bars overlooking the courses.
“Adeje has a massive lunch buffet, so this is definitely a good shout for large groups looking to refuel after their round.
“The practice facilities also had everything I needed to warm up and prepare for the tee.”
How About Activities? 🌋
“If you’re looking for things to do outside of golf, I would visit the volcano. It was amazing and worth a trip on a free day.
“The hotel bars were busy, and a pint was around €4-€6.
“La Caleta had some amazing seafood joints, and it was just a short walk from the hotels, so I had a few meals here.
“Because the island is small, all the restaurants and bars are close together and you can hop from each easily.”
What Package Would You Recommend? 📦
“I would recommend the Hotel Tenerife Golf & Sea View package for an action-packed itinerary. You can play on four courses, and it’s close to the notorious nightlife.
“A real bonus is the all-inclusive hotel.
“If you want a luxury getaway, somewhere a bit quieter, then I would recommend the Hotel Hacienda Del Conde package.
“It also has Buenavista on-site, my favourite Tenerife course, so maybe I’m a bit biased.
“Part of Tenerife’s charm is there aren’t too many to choose from, so picking somewhere to stay is easy.
“Wherever you stay, all courses are close by, so travelling isn’t a problem.”
