A Memorable 5-Day Golf Trip to Marrakech: A Perfect Blend of Culture and Fairways

If you’re looking to escape to an exotic destination that combines world-class golf with rich culture, stunning landscapes, and an unforgettable atmosphere, Marrakech should definitely be on your list. My recent 5-day golf trip to this vibrant Moroccan city was nothing short of spectacular. Here’s a recap of my adventure, with a deep dive into the courses, local highlights, and all the experiences that made this trip one to remember.

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech – A Warm Welcome

Marrakech golf trip

After a smooth flight from Bristol, I arrived at Marrakech Menara Airport, greeted by the warm, welcoming air of the city. The transfer to my luxurious hotel the Movenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech, set in the heart of the city, was quick (20 mins) and comfortable. From the moment I stepped out of the car, I was surrounded by the sights, sounds, and smells of Marrakech, offering a perfect blend of modern luxury and ancient charm.

On my first evening, I ventured down to M Avenue to have a look at Marrakech’s premier shopping district, before making my way to the Kenzi Club Agdal Medina hotel for a fantastic buffet dinner.

Day 2: Al Maaden Golf, Assoufid Golf, Jaal Reid Hotel and the Medina

The second day was a perfect mix of golf and culture. It started with a crisp morning round at the Al Maaden Golf, which offers a more modern, yet equally beautiful, golfing experience. Designed by Kyle Phillips, this 18-hole championship course is set within a natural park, sculptures and all, with sweeping views of the surrounding Atlas Mountains. It was a fun but challenging round, especially with the strategically placed bunkers and water features.

In the afternoon, I headed to Assoufid Golf Club, one of the premier courses in Marrakech. Known for its unique layout and exceptional conditioning, Assoufid is a true test of skill, with its challenging greens and breathtaking scenery.

After a successful day on the greens, I headed over to the Jaal Riad Hotel to unwind by the pool and reflect on the day’s highlights and enjoy a much-needed beer.

I decided to explore the local Medina – a must-see for anyone visiting Marrakech. The narrow, winding streets are filled with vibrant markets, where you can haggle for everything from spices to handcrafted souvenirs. The sights, sounds, and smells provide a fascinating sensory overload, setting the stage for the days ahead.

Day 3: Palmeries Golf, Hotel du Golf & Amelkis Golf

On day three, I ventured to Palmeraie Golf, a beautiful course nestled amongst palm trees with views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. It’s a perfect blend of challenging holes and scenic beauty, making it ideal for golfers looking to enjoy both great play and stunning surroundings.

Afterwards, I headed next door to the Hotel du Golf, a great All-Inclusive option for those looking to stay close to the course. The hotel’s location makes it a convenient spot for golfers, and the onsite facilities ensure you’re well taken care of after a day on the course.

In the afternoon, I teed off at Amelkis Golf, a challenging yet rewarding course with wide fairways and tricky greens. It’s a stunning track and one of my personal favourites, with water hazards and strategically placed bunkers that demand focus and precision. The course was in immaculate condition, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

Day 4: Royal Golf Marrakech & Chez Ali

Marrakech Royal golf

Day four was all about tradition and luxury, as I played at Royal Golf Marrakech, one of the most prestigious golf courses in Morocco. Set in a historic location, this course exudes old-world charm while providing a top-class golfing experience. The course features lush greenery, tree-lined fairways, and narrow driving lanes that will test every aspect of your game.

The Luxury theme continued into the afternoon with a round at the Fairmont Royal Palm & Country Club.  The course is beautifully designed, offering a perfect blend of challenge and enjoyment. The fairways are lush, the greens are fast and true, and the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards keep you on your toes. The course is surrounded by stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, adding a serene backdrop to your game.

After another full day on the fairways, I was treated to an evening at Chez Ali, an iconic Marrakech restaurant that offers more than just food – it’s an entire experience. With traditional Moroccan entertainment, including belly dancers and horse shows, it was the perfect end to the day.

Day 5: The Montgomerie Marrakech & Departure

My final round of the trip was at the stunning Montgomerie Marrakech – a course designed by none other than Colin Montgomerie himself. This beautifully laid-out course offers a perfect blend of strategy and fun, with open fairways and subtle challenges that make it both enjoyable and testing for players of all levels.

After the round, I had a chance to relax in the Montgomerie’s beautiful clubhouse and enjoy one of the famous O Mammy burgers, before heading to the airport to catch my flight back to the UK.
